Israeli tried and tested front line protection against chemical and bio-hazards now available in UK

A range of chemical and bio-hazard protection hoods, designed by Israeli defence experts for use by civilians and front-line emergency workers, are now available in the UK.

Safetyhood™  is designed to comply with the technical specification developed by the Israeli Home Front Command to save lives in any incident involving smoke, Chemical, Biological or Radiological (CBR) industrial or terrorist incident.

The disposable single-use device, which is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket, replaces the traditional full face respirator to provide instant protection long enough to allow safe evacuation from any danger zone.

The one-size fits all hood is made up of five layers of
laminate tested to withstand mustard gas for 6 hours, a three stage filter capable of trapping the smallest particulates (99.99999% to.027micron).

Over the last few months Security firm 360 Defence, the sole provider of the hoods in Scotland and one of only two suppliers in the UK, has been inundated with enquiries and orders from policemen, paramedics, other emergency workers and corporate clients.

“We’ve had a lot of orders from police officers, paramedics and others likely to find themselves suddenly at the centre of a possible terrorist incident,” said Simon Leila, Managing Director of 360 Defence, which specialises in all aspects of personal and corporate security.

”The Safety Hood will provide anybody with up to 30 minutes protection from smoke inhalation in the case of fire or in a chemical, biological or radiological incident.”

Recent research from the US has indicated that up to a third of all people killed on 9/11 were killed by smoke.

It has been estimated that during the 7/7 attack on London 40% of victims died from secondary ailments such as chemical and smoke inhalation.

“The reality is it’s only a matter of time before there is another chemical incident whether it is by accident or on purpose.” said Mr Leila.

“Because of the way the UK is now perceived in the world we are now likely to be hit by a deliberate chemical, biological or radiological attack by terrorists in the near future.

“Survival in such an incident could depend on a piece of equipment that costs the equivalent of a few pints of beer.”

The Safetyhood is guaranteed to last for five years in an unopened state and is available from 360 Defence for £16.50 each plus postage.
